

Friends of the Palo Alto Parks is governed by a Board of Directors that meets monthly at the Lawn Bowling Green Clubhouse. The board is comprised of eight members and eight advisory members.

Susan Beall, Director, has been a Palo Alto resident for 40 years. She has worked as a RN in several capacities, and more recently as an independent travel counselor with Cardoza Bungey Travel. Her volunteer activities include the Palo Alto Schools, Western Horticulture Society, University Park Neighborhood Association, local political campaigns, and Palo Alto Stanford Heritage (PAST).
Clay Ernst, Treasurer, is a Portfolio Manager in the Palo Alto office of Bingham, Osborn & Scarborough, an independent wealth advisory firm. Before joining the financial services industry, Clay served for eight years as a Naval Aviator in the U.S. Navy, flying A-6E Intruders off the carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt in Operation Desert Storm during the Gulf War conflict in 1991. He is a Certified Financial Planner certificant, holds an MBA from the Anderson School at UCLA, and resides with his wife, son, and daughter in Mountain View.
Richard Hackmann, Director, moved to Palo Alto shortly after graduating from the University of Illinois and is now Co-Founder & Executive Director of the Center for Community Action. He is also the 2010 Chair of the Palo Alto Young Professionals, a contributing writer for the East Palo Alto Today newspaper, and a new member of the Palo Alto Lawn Bowling Club.
Liz Hogan, Director, has lived in Palo Alto for over 35 years. Before retiring, Liz was Editor of Sunset Books. She is a past president of the Palo Alto Historical Association and of the Palo Alto Area Mills College Club.
Le Levy, Director, has lived in Palo Alto for over 40 years. Le is a Senior Vice President-Investments, Wachovia Securities. Community service includes: Palo Alto City Council member and mayor; past president of the Palo Alto Rotary Club, Neighbors Abroad, and Congregation Beth Am; and former Director of the Frank Livermore Trust and the Palo Alto Historical Association. He is currently a Director for Achievekids School for Autistic Children.
Linda Selden, Secretary, has been a resident of Palo Alto for over 35 years. While her children were growing up, Linda was active in the PTA and city sports programs. In 2005 Linda retired as a Senior Editor with Sunset Books. She has started a jewelry design business.
Roger Smith, Co-founder and President, has lived in Palo Alto for over 40 years while raising his family. Before retiring, Roger served as CEO of Silicon Valley Bank.
Olenka Villarreal, Vice President, has lived in Palo Alto for over 20 years, along with her husband and now two small girls. After a fulfilling career in high tech for over 15 years, she is now turning her focus on local community projects, in particular, those involving special education. Her passion comes from being a mom to both a “typical” 8-year old and a 5-year old with developmental challenges. In addition to being on the Board of the Community Advisory Committee (collaborates with the PA school district to advocate for special education), Olenka is excited about being part of the Friends' board and helping make Palo Alto parks accessible to all of its children.
